MGAP Governance

An Open Letter to all MGAP members from the Board of Directors

Because of the recent changes within the Clemson University Extension Master Gardener Program, the Master Gardener Association of the Piedmont (“MGAP”) is refocusing goals, objectives and mission.

Our goal as “Volunteers Making a Difference” is will be strengthened by focusing on our core values: ·

  • Supporting volunteer programs that address the needs of the hungry
  • ·
  • Sharing our MG learning with the public
  • ·
  • Maintaining a Yahoo Group so that gardeners can ask for help with diagnosing problems, identifying plants or pests, sharing of gardening tidbits
  • ·
  • Providing a social venue so that gardeners can meet others with gardening interests and expand our mutual gardening knowledge
The By Laws were approved in December to reflect our change in direction.
The websiteand Yahoo Group e-mail will be used to inform you of educational and volunteer opportunities as well as social functions. Educational and volunteer programs will be open to all who have completed the Master Gardener education program. Social functions will be open to those who have paid current year Association dues.

We will continue to use the Yahoo Group email function to communicate directly with MGAP members. Every member of the mail group can utilize this feature to request assistance or share gardening information. As before, we ask that the Yahoo Group communication be limited to gardening information – no solicitations, no commercial advertisements, etc. Those who disregard these guidelines will be blocked, so we ask that you use your best judgment before posting anything to the group.

We will continue to encourage those with a gardening interest to participate in the Clemson University Master Gardener education program. Our Association programs will assist current Master Gardener students in obtaining some, if not all, of the community service hours required for certification by Clemson. We will offer MGAP programs to enhance our horticultural education, and we will continue to promote good gardening practices throughout our area.

The 2010 Board and Officers are excited about our new direction and our new focus. We welcome feedback and suggestions from our members, and hope that you will continue to be active in the Association. Join us as we strive to be Volunteers Making A Difference!
