Hazardous Household Waste Disposal Project

The Hazardous Household Waste project on April 17, 2010 was the second year of collection of Hazardous Household Waste by the County. This year Ir was held at the Boiling Springs High School parking area.

Contractor personel from Care Environmental Corp. were responsible for the safe handling of all hazardous materials. The primary concern of both contractors and Master Gardener volunteeers was the safety of those working at the site as well as those bringing materials such as: pesticides, poisons, corrosives, and other dangerous and unknown chemicals to the site.
Many Master Gardener volunteers were used for traffic control and assisting drivers in getting to the correct location for special items such as oil waste, batteries, and tires. They assisted in the collection of non-hazardous materials at points set at the site up by the County.
Master Gardener, Dr. Jim Weeks, was the MGAP project leader and supported effort to encourage the County to provide this opportunity to further protect our landfills and ground water from additional contamination.
